We believe in lots of playtime in our home. But Pierogi also lives by the motto, PLAY HARD, PLAY HARDER. So, every once in awhile I inspect his bucket of toys and weed out the ones that need a little TLC. Some toys have no hope, but other times they can easily be made over. Here's how we remixed four toys that I flagged from the last toy raid :)
Flagged toy: Dirty and deserted dino chew
Solution: We gave the Stegosaurus a proper bath and snipped off any sharp bits. Then, inspired by the fact that many of these types of toys are originally scented in their packaging, we decided to re-infuse the flavor. So, we rolled the dino around in a frying pan of bacon grease - just enough to pick up the scent, patted him off and returned him to his rightful owner.
Flagged toy: Tail-less gummy fish
Solution: We centered the fish in the silicone bowl - fishy face up. (We laid a butter knife across the top of the bowl to help prop the fish up.) Then, we filled the bowl with just enough water so the fish was still sticking out and froze it. The final product looked like a friendly fish attack and to be honest, I don't know who enjoyed this more :)
Flagged toy: Stick chew stump
Solution: Pierogi clearly loved this stick chew, but he wore it down to a size that became a choking hazard. So, we improvised a teaser ball by placing the stick inside of a treat ball. This solution peaked a lot of curiosity from Pierogi because it made a ruckus when he nosed it around.
Flagged toys: Loose rope and gummy bead
Solution: In their former lives, each of these pieces were happily apart of other toys, but each of those were destroyed and this is all that Pierogi left us with. To salvage these parts, we simply threaded the rope through the bead and knotted each end to create a newfound tug toy.
What do you think? Is it time for a toy check up at your home?
