I had taken this photo back in January and recently unearthed the little gem. Pierogi popping up like a prairie dog, in the background, cracks me up! That pose is so characteristic of him -- he likes to keep tabs on everything in his world :)
But today's post isn't about prairie dogs -- it's about the four somewhat funny reminders that I set up to remember the little-big things. I complete three of those things on a mostly monthly basis and the other on a daily basis. Here's what they are...
- Toy check. On a mostly monthly basis, I go through all of Pierogi and Gilly's toys. I retire the toys that are excessively worn out (and later sometimes salvage them) and spruce up the rest (i.e. rinse off slobber). The boys are largely into their toys and I like to keep them safe and interesting. Of course, I always immediately remove any toys that are clearly unsafe, but otherwise, having a schedule is a good way to check out what they're enjoying and reinfuse fun where needed.
- Nail trims. Back when Pierogi was still a tiny pupper, our favorite dog store was regularly hosting a mobile groomer who generously offered nail trims for only $5! But when the schedule changed, nail trims sort of dropped off of our radar and we deviated from our strict monthly trims. Nail trims are important to us and we like to stay on top of grooming, so I set up monthly reminders. The reminders are also useful for helping me plan in advance when I can. For example, if we're due for a dog food run or have an upcoming vet appointment, I'll also see if we can squeeze in nail trims during those errands (as sometimes dog stores also offer in-house grooming and occasionally veterinary offices are willing to trim nails during checkups).
- Dog date. We've talked about dog dates before and we're still big proponents of scheduling special time with our dogs. Whether it's a morning at the dog park, sniffing a new trail or taking a drive with all the windows down, we think it's important to make time just for them. When life gets hectic, it's easy to forget to make time for the #itsthelittlethings, but setting up monthly reminders helps. Plus, I always feel substantially refreshed after spending quality time with my little guys.
- Pick up poop (in our backyard)! This may definitely sound like a funny reminder, but for me, it's a little-big thing that I need a reminder for. We're typically able to immediately "scoop at the scene" in our backyard, but I also like to go through at the end of each day for anything that we may have missed. This is especially essential when we have doggie friends over and key for us humans to enjoy our outdoor space, too.
What little-big things do you set reminders for?
Woof! (Hey, there!) Pierogi, Gilly and Sarah here. Thanks for stopping by our dog blog. We're a little dog-obsessed around here and Pierogi & Co. is all about inspiring you to enjoy the dog days. Because life's more fun with your best (furry) friend by your side. So grab a bone and follow along as we stop to sniff the flowers...
