Which side of the jello fence are you on? Do you love or hate jello? Personally, I’ve never cared for it, but Pierogi and Gilly had never tried it and I didn’t want to speak for them ;) So, I whipped up a special batch of the jiggly stuff with this doggie mix and made jello shots, no less!
Not liking real jello, I couldn’t remember what the people box mix looks like; how it starts off. Do you know? This is how the doggie version looks -- it’s just a fine powder. We tried the Peanut Butter flavor, which we could all smell as soon as I ripped the bag open.
The back of the doggie mix suggests using silicone molds, but we decided to go the jello shot route! In life, I wouldn't always suggest taking the jello shot path, but for this recipe -- it works :) (The little cups were another dollar store find.)
Then, we added some hot water and transformed the mix from the state on the left to the servings on the right.
And here's the shots right before we popped them into the fridge. The mixture was thin and smooth with little flecks of peanut butter.
Less than an hour later, we had jello shots! They turned out just like the real deal, except the doggie version was slightly firmer.
For extra decadence, we added a small dollop each of both peanut butter and whipped cream. The layers looked so tempting and I kept forgetting that they were dog treats!
But, since they were dog treats, I left the taste testing to Pierogi and Gilly. I scooped out a jello shot and divided it up. Pierogi gave his half a good sniff and then accepted a small bite; Gilly ate his half in a single bite. I love how different they approach nearly everything!
So, that's the story of the time that I made jello shots for my dogs. Is your pup a peanut butter fiend? This treat is also grain-free and actually includes gelatin, which is believed to be good for bones and joints!
