Last month, right before the holidays, our entire family flew out to the West coast for twelve days of adventuring. Our first stop was San Francisco, which both Pierogi and I had never visited...
After a (way too) early flight out of Chicago, we landed in a rainy San Francisco. We were all pretty groggy by that point, but as we drove into the heart of the city, right along the San Francisco Bay, we simultaneously perked up. We stayed at this dog friendly hotel, which features a captivating ceiling mural and a lounge where (dog-friendly) wine hours are hosted.
This was also Pierogi's first stay in a hotel, but he seemed to thoroughly enjoy himself. Upon checking in, the hotel gave Pierogi this little goody bag and later sent up a dog bed and food and water bowls.
The rain lasted that entire first day, so after a quick nap, we took it easy and just explored the hotel. We helped ourselves to fresh fruit water, sat by the fireplace, people-watched the sidewalk scene from the lounge and befriended the doorman. Later in the evening, when Mike returned from his office (which was the main reason for our San Francisco visit), we walked down the block to grab the best Thai food we've ever had.
The next day turned out to be much warmer, so after sleeping in, we got ready for the day.
Mike couldn't wait for us to stop by his office, so we got in an Uber and headed towards the Financial District. (Side note: We mostly took Ubers to get around the city, all of which were happy to accommodate Pierogi - but whether pets can ride is up to each driver.) Mike's office is a part of a WeWork shared workspace, which was beyond...cool. Beer taps, lounge work seating, a ping pong table and DOGS are just some of the amenities! Anyways, we got a glimpse into where Mike disappears to when he works in San Francisco and we got to meet their office dog - an irresistible Corgi!
Next, we set off to find this pet store near North Beach, for a few doggie souvenirs. The walk turned out to be a little longer than I had anticipated (although we did stop to greet other dogs in Washington Square) and the monstrous neighborhood hills didn't help! The store was a friendly and busy little spot, on an otherwise quiet street. They had a lot of cute finds, including fleece ponchos in every color, a dog treat bar and local sports jerseys. We left with a Cal football jersey and a matching bowtie for Pierogi. And on the ride back to the hotel, we caught a distant glimpse of the magnificent Golden Gate Bridge!
The next morning was our last, so after a breakfast of tacos and chilaquiles, we headed back to the airport for...Scottsdale!
Have you ever been to San Francisco? Thanks again to everyone on Instagram who left suggestions of things to do. We just ran out of time!
Woof! (Hey, there!) Pierogi, Gilly and Sarah here. Thanks for stopping by our dog blog. We're a little dog-obsessed around here and Pierogi & Co. is all about inspiring you to enjoy the dog days. Because life's more fun with your best (furry) friend by your side. So grab a bone and follow along as we stop to sniff the flowers...
