I don't know how the weather has been treating you, but with unseasonably warm temperatures in Chicago, our holiday thoughts have been a little delayed. But we're finally ready to get in the spirit and we're launching with a holiday gift guide! Over the next several days, we'll be sharing a mix of DIY and product ideas to inspire you to find the perfect gifts for all of the dog moms, dog dads, and of course dogs, on your holiday list. Up first, is a simple DIY...
This DIY for a vintage dog print is a win all around. It requires very little effort on your part, but makes for a unique and thoughtful gift. The steps are simply to find an interesting dog print and then frame it! Thrift store book sections are the best place to find your winning dog print. That's where we found this Ed Emberley book.
Which I was psyched to find! As a kid, I would copy the happy doodles for hours.
I thought that this page of dog tutorials was perfect. I love the colors and whimsy; it had special meaning to me. Plus, if you look closely, each of the dogs are named. My favorites are Brunhilda the Bulldog and Pippa the Poodle. So great.
But there were also plenty of other actual dog books, filled with potential, at our thrift store. The book section was surprisingly organized and there was even an entire area on animals. I found several breed specific dog books that were published in the 80s (full of fantastic 80s advice), a book on dog shows, another old book on 'feeding your new puppy' and a few illustrated books about dogs.
When you finally settle upon a print, carefully remove your page as close to the book spine as possible and then tidy up the edges with a paper trimmer. If your print doesn't quite fit your frame or for an added detail, simply (tape) mount it on a sheet of pretty cardstock - like we did. You could also thrift your frame to complete the vintage look - making this one very affordable gift.
P.S. Who's on your holiday list?
P.P.S. Here's another simple DIY.
