You didn't think we forgot about the humans, did you? Today, we're sharing a Valentine's Day recipe that's strictly for dog moms and dads. We unleashed our sweet tooth and creativity to create chocolate bark inspired by our pals.
From three bases (chocolate, white chocolate and butterscotch) and five toppings (chocolate chips, plain and chocolate crispy cereal, chopped walnuts and coconut), we created six different barks...
What doesn't chocolate cure? :)
We kept six specific dog breeds in mind as we whipped up each bark, but tweak the toppings and the possibilities become endless!
Can you guess the dog breeds that inspired us? Clockwise from the upper left corner: Corgi, Poodle, Golden Doodle, Yorkie, Dalmatian (that one was easy!) and Chocolate Lab - which was my favorite.
To make each variety of bark, we always started by melting about 3 squares of melting chocolate or about 1/2 cup of chocolate chips. We melted all of our chocolate in the microwave, but if you're fancy, you could also use a double boiler :) Once completely melted, we poured the chocolate onto parchment paper and used the back of a spoon to spread the chocolate out. For extra thick bark, melt double the amount of chocolate and spread less thin.
Topping time! Immediately after spreading the chocolate out, sprinkle on a generous combination of toppings. We used another 1/4 - 1/2 cup in toppings for each bark. Consider combining toppings and adding multiple layers - like an extra chocolate drizzle after the bark has set. The bark will set fairly quickly (much faster than it takes for ice cubes to harden), but it will also depend on how thick you make yours, so give it several hours...if you can! :)
Once set, gently break up the bark, with your hands, into generous pieces. To gift, wax food envelopes work great.
Have you ever made bark? What kind of toppings would you use?
