We’re back with another sweet dog treat! This time, we tried out a carob cake mix by Puppy Cake. (If you’ve never heard of carob, it’s a natural chocolate alternative and safe substitute for dogs – since they can’t enjoy the real thing.) A few months back, my Grandma and I whipped up a dozen cupcakes using Puppy Cake’s peanut butter mix and our dogs went nuts for them! So I knew the carob flavor would go over well, but this time I challenged myself to transform the mix three different ways. Here’s what I came up with...
1. Double chocolate cupcake! Baking with the Puppy Cake cake mix is just like baking with a human cake box mix. So for this remix, I added carob chips to a few cupcakes before I popped them into the oven. Then I frosted with the Puppy Cake frosting that's included and finished with another carob chip.
2. Chocolate cake trifle! Oftentimes, trifle is a lifesaver for when a cake comes out less than perfect looking. Puppy Cake is nearly impossible to mess up (truly, because I may or may not have forgotten to pull the cupcakes out in time), but trifle just seemed like a funny treat for a dog! To make the trifle, I diced a few cupcakes and layered them between dollops of the frosting (bulked up with a little Greek yogurt).
3. Chocolate strawberry shortcake! Hello, delicious looking shortcake! Strawberry shortcake is one of my favorite summer desserts, so it just felt right to remix it for Pierogi. To make this showstopping dessert, simply slice a cupcake in half and fill with layers of frosting and sliced strawberries. Garnish with a dot of frosting and another sliced strawberry.
Would you try any of these desserts?
P.S. Dog milkshakes and donuts.
