A Pierogi & Co. series all about Pierogi and Gilly's favorite treats.

For over a week, I blushed every time I opened my purse at a store register...

When I bought these cod skin dog treat bones (pictured above) at a dog store for Pierogi and Gilly, I forwent a plastic bag and just threw them into my purse. Well, I kept forgetting to give them to the boys and so those weird looking bones continued to shock me every time I opened my purse!

If you know me at all, you might be surprised that I even went for the seafood dog treats. I've long had an unsubstantiated dislike for seafood (yes, even shrimp). But one day, Pierogi and Gilly's beagle friend came over with those cod skin bones and I've never seen Pierogi's little nose sniff the air as hard as he did when we brought the cod bones out. He was so excited!

Not long after, we were back at the dog store buying up the cod bones! :) It was then that I also discovered freeze-dried mussels (also pictured above). Initially, I thought it was such a funny and fancy thing to package up for dogs. The mussel bag describes them as "the same quality as the ones you'd enjoy at a fancy night out (without the white wine and cream)..." I can't vouch much for the taste of mussels, but thanks to seafood-loving friends, I do know how they're often served - steamy and with plenty of buttery toast. The bag of freeze-dried mussels brought back such warm memories and so we decided to try them out. Like the cod bones, the mussels also have a distinct smell. Pierogi and Gilly instantly know when I have the bag of mussels out and come running for a sample.

Also good to know is that both seafood snacks are all-natural. The cod bones are nothing but cod skin and the mussels are just blue and green mussels! Here's the crunchy stick version of the cod bones that we love and the bag of mussels, which we finally finished after enjoying for months.

Does your dog like seafood? Anything in particular?
