A Pierogi & Co. series about the awesome stories behind our best friends' names.
Titan is a young Standard Poodle with a rich chocolate colored coat and a name rich with meaning. Here, his Mom shares what Standard Poodles are really like, their favorite things to do together, and the story behind his impressive full name.
How old is Titan?
14 months old
What's something interesting about Standard Poodles that others may not know?
Standard Poodles have the misconception of being prissy or frou-frou, as they were often photographed with well-dressed, elegant ladies in the 1950s in Paris and Hollywood. But, they are far from that. They are actually German, duck hunting dogs and are very smart, agile, active and vibrant. Many, like Titan, naturally have a high-prey drive and love to chase anything that moves - including wildlife and flying balls of any kind. They also tend to be - at the same time - very sensitive and loving/sweet dogs. Finally, poodles don't shed!
What's life like for Titan?
Titan is a single dog living with his single Mom - no kids. He was raised in La Jolla, California near the beach, and now, we live in Santa Barbara, California - also near the beach. Some of our favorite things to do together include walking on the beach and chasing seagulls, sniffing along the grassy area of the waterfront promenade, and playing fetch. Although, Titan enjoys playing with other dogs just as much! We're currently looking for playmates since we relocated to Santa Barbara. Titan had many friends in Encinitas (California) where he used to go to a fantastic dog daycare called Woofingham Palace.
How would you describe Titan's personality?
Titan is vibrant, energetic, playful and sweet. He loves greeting other dogs and people. He is a nose dog, and loves to sniff all over the place during walks. He is medium-sized for a full Standard Poodle and gets a lot of attention everywhere he goes. It's not unusual for people to stop and ask to pet him or take his photo. We've even gotten shout outs from people passing in cars or riding bicycles, yelling things like, "That's a good looking dog!" Overall, he's a very well-rounded dog. He came from a Natural Rearing breeder, so his parents received minimum vaccines, were both fed a raw diet (no kibble), and, Titan, has his natural tail (it's not docked). One day, I hope to make him a Therapy Dog.
And now, the question that we've all been wondering, what is Titan's full name?
Genteel's Titan of Luxor
We'd love to hear the story behind that name!
I wanted a name that reflects strength and power, and "titan" came to mind. By definition, a "titan", is an extremely important person, or someone who is powerful and influential in a certain field. I just felt that Titan would be the best name for him. Luxor, is inspired by my unforgettable trip to Egypt. I was touring ancient sites like the majestic Luxor Temple (right off of the Nile River) in Luxor, Egypt when Titan was born. Finally, Genteel is the name of Titan's Natural Rearing breeder - Genteel Standard Poodles.
We love your Instagram account! Titan always puts smiles on our faces. What do you love most about the photos that you capture of Titan?
I feel that his personality really comes through in all of his photos. His personality has definitely evolved throughout his growing stages - from puppyhood to adolescence - which is where he is now. His sweet, playful and inquisitive demeanor shines through in all of the photos.
A big thanks to Titan and his Mom for sharing their story! To follow their adventures, you can find them on Instagram @titanofluxor. P.S. Scroll a few months back for beautiful shots of their road trip to Canada!
